Famous Photographers

1800's: Edward Curtis
Photographed Native Americans, shows a sort of peacefulness and humbleness in how the natives are captured in his pictures. They also show a certain power and assertiveness in the natives he has portrayed.

1900-1950: Ansel Adams
Focused almost solely on landscapes, most of his picture have very little negative space with the landscape taking up mostly two thirds of the picture. His photos have a lot of depth, and high contrasting black and white.

1951-1990: Harry Callahan
Photographed his wife and baby, trying to capture an essence of his own personal life. The subjects in many of his pictures are silhouetted or distant and are surrounded by a lot of blackness which really emphasizes the subject, as well as add mysteriousness.

1991-2000: Magdelena Wosinska
Captured the way of a young American's life in California in the 90's. Her pictures show much of the recklessness and fast-lane way of living often associated with younger generations, and along with that a fair amount of nudity, both for artistic purposes, but also what looks like just for fun.

2001-Present: Julio Bittencourt
Photographed the poor and homeless in Brazil, most often to comment on the extremely poor housing conditions faced by many Brazilians. His pictures portray the bareness and solidarity of the people facing these living conditions.

Word Smithing Triptych

My three words, in order of the pictures, were:

Unproductive: My mom always sits down and watches TV at the end of the day. While it portrays being unproductive, its also a beneficial period of laziness for her because it lets her relax at the end of the work day. I was doing a two second exposure time to capture blur in the TV screen, but my mom also turned her head midway through the exposure and I really like the outcome.

Quivered
I walked to a runoff lake behind my neighborhood to take this picture, it was a very cold day and I thought the darkened trees and light mist helped emphasize the word.

Unbruised
I set up a white poster board behind an apple in my kitchen for this picture. I wanted to make sure to capture the apple with as much roundness and smoothness to it as I could to really help display the word.
